We are excited to share our lineup of free & paid workshops.
We have a wide variety, ranging from easy to learn, to more advanced workshops. Please take the time to read through the workshop descriptions you are interested in to make sure you have the skill level required, can complete the necessary prep, are able to attend alternate dates, and/or have the supplies/tools needed for the workshop. Some workshops provide materials which we incorporate into the base price cost, but for the Free Gold Luster workshop BHC does not provide the luster. Workshop descriptions will call out tools, materials, and pottery you will need to bring to the workshop so read through them completely. You have the opportunity to select up to 5 workshops, but are not limited to 5. If you would like to sign up for more email teambhc@blossomhillcrafts.com. 2-3 business days after you sign up a confirmation email will be sent. Please review it and let us know if changes need to be made. If you don’t receive a confirmation email check your junk or spam folders before emailing us to follow up. We want to be sure you are receiving our communications and are signed up for the correct workshops. We’ve also made paying for workshops even easier. The cost of workshops will be processed monthly along with your membership fees each month (ACH’s). Email is our primary form of communication to our members. Unfortunately there is no way for us to know if you haven’t received our emails. It is important to follow up with us know if you do not receive a confirmation email after signing up. |

HOW OUR FREE WORKSHOPS WORK:
Free Workshops are a first come first serve with a waitlist. Read through each description to make sure you have the skill level required, can complete the necessary prep, and/or have the supplies/tools needed for the workshop. These workshops are free to members but a $20 "No Show Fee" will be applied to memberships fees if you do not show up. Please send us an email as soon as you can if you are unable to attend. We want to make sure our waitlisted members are able to attend if space is available. HOW PAID WORKSHOPS WORK: We’ve also made paying for workshops even easier. The cost of workshops will be processed monthly along with your membership fees each month (ACH’s). Waitlists will be created for full workshops. A second date could be offered for popular workshops. The minimum number of students must be met for a workshop to run. If the minimum is not met a workshop will be canceled via email 7 days before. Cancellation policy: No Refunds 7 days or less prior to the workshop. |

Ceramic Handbuild Tealight House
Would you like to build a cozy Tealight house for your Valentine or just for yourself? In this workshop you will learn how to build a charming handbuilt house using slabs of clays. To help spark your creativity we will provide printed house templates and a variety of cookie cutters so you can add unique details and personal touches to your design. Intro to Slip Casting
Learn the basics of slip casting with 2 part molds! We will provide variety of decorative and functional molds to choose from. Each participant will walk away with a small and medium sized slip cast piece. - This workshop is meant for people that have taken a Slip Casting Workshop with us before. Animal and Human Sculptures
For this workshop, Ed will be going over the basics of sculpting the animal and human form, discussing techniques and sharing personal insights about the process as well as exploring various surface treatments. We will be focused on making small to medium scale projects. Saggar Firing
Saggar firing is an alternative final firing method in which bisqueware is fired inside another container. This workshop will teach you what materials will create which effects. You will enclose your pot and choosen materials in aluminum foil and we will fire it. For a more refined look we recommend Burnishing & Terra Sig your pots. Requirements: 1 pot with a footprint no larger than 6", bisque pots. Burnished recommended. Made from a white clay: sonora, dover, bmix with grog. Glaze Resist Reimagined
In this workshop we will use vinyl, tape, liquid latex and colored wax to create unique glaze designs on our bisqueware. Requirements: Bring several pieces of bisqueware to glaze (cone 5/6 or cone 10 - smooth clay body preferred). Bring an assortment of brushes, and something sharp to cut with (scissors and/or X-Acto knife). Porcelain Painting
For first time painters and returning students. Learn the fine art of porcelain painting with our guest artist, Mina Kwok, in this 3 week introduction to porcelain painting workshop. Her 40 years of experience and step by step direction will relieve any reservations will make learning easy. This introduction to porcelain painting requires absolutely no drawing experience but for the experienced painters, Mina will give guidance on how to fold your current skills into the process of painting on porcelain. In Week One, you will lay down the linework for your images. Week Two Mina will demonstrate how to shade the image to create depth. In the final class, Week Three, the background will be painted and the shading will be refined with a final layer. After each week your porcelain piece will be fired to set the layer. You will have the option to freehand a drawing or images will be provided. All tools, materials, and porcelain pottery is included in the price of the workshop. Intimate Porcelain Forms
In this workshop, Ed will be providing a brief introduction to porcelain as well as how he incorporates it into his practice as a sculptor. You will be working with high fire porcelain and working on small scale forms, no taller than about 8 inches. Naked Raku
Naked Raku is an alternative firing technique where slip and glaze are applied to a bisque fired pot. While the pot is firing in the raku kiln, cracks form along the slip surface. This allows carbon through to the surface of the pot leaving grey to black where the cracks formed. You will learn how to safely removed your pot from the kiln and place it into a reduction can. The hot pot is then placed in water to help the slip fall away from the pot to reveal a beautiful pattern formed from the cracks. Since no glaze stays on the pot at the end, this process is called "naked raku”. Naked Raku pots are decorative only and are not water tight or food safe. Requirements: 2 pots (medium), bisque pots. trimmed well and smooth. No need to burnish. Slip Trailing - FULL (WAITLIST ONLY)
Learn the fine art of slip trailing from Charleen -the Slip-Trailing-Queen! We will be making several small trays and use them as a canvas to explore the design and texture of slip trailing. We will also learn how to make our own slip. Slip trailers will be provided by BHC and will be included in the cost of the workshop. Special Effects Glazing
Do you want gold without the luster? Glazes that create exciting textures without any effort? Join us for a unique, hands-on ceramics workshop where you'll explore special effect glazes not typically available to studio members, including some that craze, crawl, and shimmer. This workshop will offer returning favorites from past Crawl Glaze workshops, in addition to several newcomers including a lava glaze and glazes with metallic finishes. Please note these glazes are not food safe and should only be used on decorative pieces. Spray Glaze Workshop
Learn to use (and clean) the spray booth to spray glazes on your pieces. Spraying glazes allows you to apply thinner coats than cannot be achieved through pouring and dipping methods, and the "overspray" effect can help you achieve an "ombre" effect wherein one color transitions more smoothly into another. A spray gun, adapter, and N95 mask for you to keep are included in the cost of this workshop. Handles
Struggle with making handles or never made one before? Spend a morning with Kaitlin to learn tips and tricks on how to attach a good feeling handle. Students will need to show up with 4-8 leather hard cylinders to practice on the day of the workshop. A couple of different handle types will be demonstrated with plenty of time to practice attaching. Stained Glass for Everyone - Guest Artist: Ruth Stephens
Welcome you to the wonderful world of stained glass! This two-day Stained Glass Workshop with Ruth Stephens, an “award winning” Stained Glass Artist, is a great way to “get your feet wet”. Learn all the steps for making a 10 x 10 inch Stained Glass Panel from start to finish in the traditional Tiffany Copper Foil method. For this project you will choose from our selection of traditional Design templates, ensuring optimal learning shapes. This will teach you how glass ‘behaves', the key to creating your own designs for future projects. * Glass Cutting: Scoring/cutting various types of glass * Grinding: Grinding the edges of cut-glass pieces using a Grinder * Copper Foiling: Applying adhesive copper tape to glass edges "Tiffany method" * Soldering: Using soldering iron and solder to join the foiled pieces together * Finishing: Applying patina (color change) and polish to the solder lines Requirements: All tools and materials provided for use during workshop.
